All vehicles (including media/ journalists duty vehicles) on tourists duty from 2 – 8 November 2008 in Thimphu should register with ABTO office. ABTO will be issuing an identification stickers based on tourists travel itinerary (route permit).

Security clearance for guides and drivers during the coronation

October 20, 2008

Tour guides and drivers accompanying journalist guest(s) visiting Bhutan through local tour operators for the Coronation will have to submit the duly completed security registration forms along with two passports size photograph to the Bhutan Infocomm and Media Authority (BICMA) along with the application for media accreditation for the journalist guest(s).

In a Press Release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Government of Bhutan will be issuing gratis visas and waive tourists fees for all interested media organisations wishing to cover the celebrations.

Tourism As Usual During The Coronation Celebrations

The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) allayed fears expressed by tour operators that the normal flow of tourists into the country will be affected during the coronation celebrations. The TCB said that the celebration is seen as a means to promote tourism and not otherwise.
